A successful DJ has to be able to play to his crowd and be capable of switching from one genre to the next on the fly. It’s a technique that’s more art than science, however, and you can’t really teach it, or really even observe it when it’s happening in real time. That’s one of the reasons the DJ field is so often misunderstood.
Superstar DJ, karaoke-pro, light piano twinkler, and all-around entertainer Diamond Dave Hosley knows all of this, which is why he’s slowed down the entire process in order to help science better understand what’s going on in a DJ’s mind during a performance.
