Miami’s “season” kicks off this week with the annual Art Basel fair.
Every year along with the art comes a handful of new high-profile hospitality projects. 2014 brings the world a few more much needed super luxury hotels you can’t afford. Studio 54’s Ian Schrager is christening the Edition Hotel, complete with a Studio 55 in the basement called Basement. There’s now a Miami Thompson Hotel. And Tommy Hilfiger is taking over The Raleigh Hotel, which he plans to convert into condos, by partying with Miley Cyrus. All those venues have scores of over-branded mega-parties catering to asshole hedge fund collectors who currently prop up the contemporary art market after previously destroying the economy.
People looking for a non-corporate sponsored art-y party may want to try their luck at the Astor Social Club. Located in the Art Deco Hotel Astor, the venue is hosting private events Wednesday-Saturday. Unfortunately, these events are very much private, hosted by galleries and art folk who do not need Dom Perignon and BMW logos to make a party. But hey, any door is always open to a guy with a pretty girl.
Christian Alexander is the man behind ASC. Alexander is a New Yorker best known for his work with The Box, La Esquina, and a million other spots. This is his first nightclub in Miami.
BULLETT has exclusive first look below. Pardon the iPhone pics, there is no photography allowed at the venue.
