New Death Grips Album Cover Is a Penis Covered in Words (So NSFW)

A wide lens of music history will reveal the thousands of ways in which bands have sought to thumb their nose at label fuckery by doing what they want when they want, all of the time. But Death Grips may have one-upped a healthy chunk of them by prematurely releasing their upcoming NO LOVE DEEP WEB on the Internet, well before parent label Epic was apparently planning to give it an official go. A very, very cursory listen that should in no way be taken as a referendum of quality reveals that the band hasn’t departed from its minimal, throbbing sound that mashes disparate elements of rap, hardcore and punk together for what’s essentially the soundtrack to the best skateboarding video you’ve ever watched.

A band leaking its own material isn’t big news, though; the catching thing is that the album’s cover is what the above headline promises: an erect dick with the album title written in Sharpie across the shaft. A note on the Death Grips website reads, “U.S law states you must be 18 years of age to view graphic sexual material. We consider this art.” I’m sure that won’t give any sex offenders any ideas, nope. NO LOVE DEEP WEB should be officially out on… actually, who knows, because what label is going to put out an album six months after it “leaks”?  (No pun intended, because literally everything is a dick joke when you put your mind to it.) Sure, one could ponder the possible marketing scheme of having a so-called edgy band out-edge itself once again in order to recapture whatever credibility lost by having videos that play on MTV, especially considering their first album on Epic did Kreayshawn numbers. (I am not that cynical, at least not this early in the morning.) But you can listen to it below, and peep the very NSFW cover art right below that.
