“If we could bring him back we would…No step into the mysterious unknown is too daring to bring back what was lost,” goes the voiceover for the Frankenweenie trailer. I think they’re talking about a young boy who tries to revive his dead dog through mad science there, but it might just as well be about Tim Burton’s career.
For this one, a long time obsession of Burton’s, he’s said, he seems to have gotten his fast ball back. Naturally, when the boy Victor begins to mess around with life and death, something goes horribly wrong, and a simple story about a boy and his dead dog turns into, well, we’re not sure exactly. Two new clips from the film were aired at ComicCon this week that shed light on the mystery. i09 has the details:
And in the second clip, we saw a monster-making moment, where Victor and his already-resurrected dog Sparky are talking to Igor, the weird hunchback kid. Victor theorizes that the wind and the lightning are both part of the process of bringing people back to life. “Just the wind isn’t strong enough to bring a man back from the dead,” says Victor. “For that I need the lightning.”
And a solid movie premise. Wait, which thing are we talking about again here—the movie or the career?
