Neil Patrick Harris Closes Tony Awards with ‘Empire State of Mind’

+

National treasure Neal Patrick Harris was predictably winning as the host of the Tony Awards last night, because there was roughly a 0% chance that he wouldn’t be. While his opening number got a lot of the attention online, the closing one, a version of “Empire State of Mind” in which he and five-time Tony winner Audra McDonald worked in all of the names of the night’s award-winners into the lyrics, was a show-stopper. Literally, because when it was over the show stopped, but also figuratively, because people loved it. All the more impressive, the lyrics were written on the fly during the telecast, which is great, but, then again, they didn’t feature an appearance by noted thespian Mike Tyson.
