Rapper Mykki Blanco announced today on Twitter that his new album’s lead single would drop in May, but released a surprising buzz track to tide us over, featuring Macy Rodman’s “Lazy Girl” off her debut EP, Help—a musical pairing we never knew we needed.
“I don’t wanna eat, talk shit, see people / I just wanna lay down and die,” Rodman coos in the sample, reflecting on her experience transitioning, as Blanco begins freestyling a manic verse above longtime collaborator Jeremiah Meece’s muscular production. Considering the rapper says he first discovered Rodman’s song yesterday, the turnaround time on this is impressive and further proof that Blanco’s one of the strongest contemporary emcees.
This surprise drop follows another Meece-assisted effort, “SCALES,” an aggressive track that revived Solange-inspired lyrics originally created for an unreleased Gay Dog Food collab with Chicago rapper Katie Got Bandz. Listen to Blanco’s latest, below:
