There will never be another Marilyn Monroe. Following her tragic and untimely death, the legendary sex symbol’s signature blonde locks and fire-engine red lips were immortalized as classic, Hollywood glamour. The screen siren’s perennial beauty transcends time, and can never be duplicated — though, many have tried. Most recently, Michelle Williams. The 31-year-old actress, who recently received a Golden Globe for her performance as Marilyn in My Week With Marilyn, stripped down for GQ‘s February cover to channel none other than Marilyn herself. The revealing spread comes as a surprise from Williams, who admittedly avoids sex appeal both on and off the silver screen.
“I wouldn’t say that would be one of my first qualities as a human being – being sexy,” she said. “I think because my character on Dawson’s Creek was sexy… sexualised… sexual… I saw all the negative attention and connotations that can come along with that. And that those things can keep people from seeing you clearly.”
Other stars who have recently assumed the role of Marilyn Monroe are, most notably, Lindsay Lohan in Playboy, and Gossip Girl‘s Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), who will channel Marilyn in an upcoming episode.
