The photographs that Samantha Casolari took backstage at Fendi‘s Spring 2012 show at Milan Fashion Week are yet more proof of her singular aesthetic. The self-taught Italian photographer complemented the collection with her dreamy and hazily unfocused lens, capturing Milan-meets-Tippi Hedren models candidly, aloof, and looking eerily bouffant-ed.
Karl Lagerfeld’s cinematic collection was inspired not by the vintage vixens of Fellini but by the Milanese housewife portrayed by Tilda Swinton in I Am Love. Like Swinton’s character, Emma Recchi, the looks were simultaneously uptight (high neck blouses) and unhinged (the hair). Contrasting collars, A-line jackets, and sheer dresses in dark colors with apron-like fronts created the impression of a haute-housewife gone almost, but not quite, bad.
