I imagine it wouldn’t be unglamorous to spend one’s time flying around the world, but it must come with a certain exhaustion after enough packs of airline peanuts and layovers spent in unfamiliar Bangladeshi airports. In a video for Wild Nothing’s “Paradise” off their recently released Nocturne, actress Michelle Williams is shown passing through airports and faraway locales while contemplating something wordless and true. It’s a very simple video—it looks to have been filmed on an iPhone using a perpetual Instagram filter—but matched to the song, there’s an airy quality that places everything somewhere between romance and weariness, thanks in no small part to Williams’ ability to look silently fetching while standing next to Niagara Falls. The whole thing has an aura of Lost in Translation-meets-Sans Soleil, but maybe I’m reaching; at any rate, it’s a fine song and a pleasant video.
