But we’ll be able to look something like one, as Metallica’s James Hetfield has designed a line of sunglasses in a partnership with Sutro Eyewear. Retailing for $219.99, the shades are described by Hetfield as ”built to look faster than a speeding riff and to handle the life of a road dog like me.” Which is a great set of imagery, and makes me wish he’d taken it even further: lenses darker than the witching hour, hinges sturdier than a metalhead’s integrity, frames sleeker than a champion greyhound. Go hog wild! After all, they represent, as The Hollywood Reporter calls it, a pricing compromise between shades by Tom Ford and Ray-Bans. (Underrated metal option: Go without glasses, and risk the sun burning out your corneas.) A trip to the sales page on Metallica’s website reveals that “product not available,” which suggests they’re too hot to handle even through official channels. More likely, they’ll be on sale sometime soon.
