Hi h8ers. That’s Mary-Louise Parker, star of Weeds, and RIPD, and Red 2, and many other fine motion pictures and motion TV shows, talking to you, specifically. What’s she talking about? Well, she says she may end up quitting acting sooner rather than later, because internet.
“The world has gotten too mean for me, it’s just too bitchy. All the websites and all the blogging and all the people giving their opinion and their hatred … it’s all so mean-spirited, it’s all so critical,” she told News Corp Australia (via New York Mag). “It’s sport for people, it’s fun to get on at night and unleash their own self-loathing by attacking someone else who they think has a happier life – or something, I dunno,” she went on. All of which I would be ferverntly agreeing with if I could think of a single person who’s ever had anything unkind to say about Parker, who, I think we can all agree is just a delightful human being, and a fresh talent, not to mention a stone cold babe, never mind the fact that she’s almost 50. Aside from all that she’s a talented writer, as her occasional pieces for Esquire have shown.
Seriously, what’s there to complain about? I mean, I know this is the internet, and people would shit on their own mother if it meant driving clicks to their brand, but can you imagine how long she would last if she had to put up with real internet trolling like some of her peers? You know what? This whole thing inspires me to say the first mean thing about Mary-Louise Parker I can remember seeing: you’re kind of a wimp.
