Mara Hoffman is in the mood for Mexican. The print-happy lady lit up the Spring ’12 season by literally outdoing herself, which is tricky, considering Hoffman’s calling card is her enthusiasm for patterns. Tribals on steroids received neon renderings, trippy caftans were paired with hot pink shorts, and the hair was twisted and tied with braided pieces of bright cloth. Though the brights almost hurt, Hoffman’s ability to clash and combine color is her art, and there was nary a piece that isn’t totally wearable. We caught up with her to ask her some Fashion Week questions while she bustled around her show:
Bullett: Do you have a good luck charm?
Mara Hoffman: My baby.
Did you have a favorite scent in high school?
Oh man, high school! I think I wore Coco Chanel.
What are your favorite pair of jeans?
I haven’t been wearing jeans. I have some old tie-dyed cutoffs that I love.
Where do you get your inspiration for these insane prints?
Usually it’s location. This season’s story is Mexico. I’ve been, but then I was inspired by the freedom of it.
Who did the amazing up-do hair for this?
TIGI’s Nick Irwin
I know this might be a hard question for you, but what’s a color right now you hate?
I’m not a hater! But…I’m not a huge brown fan. But I do own a pair of brown shoes!
