On the heels of Trump’s Muslim ban, M.I.A. has dropped a powerful new video for the anti-establishment girl power anthem, ‘P.O.W.A.’ The self-directed video shows the rapper covered from head-to-toe in sheer scarves, as she spits cutting lyrics against against the “supa-kala fascist, racist, espi-ala-tazor” Trump—”Throw up my finger ’cause I’m taking on the Tower.” The dissident banger also takes aim against xenophobia, border control and the refugee crisis, all of which M.I.A. has been vocal about in the past.
With the “P.O.WA” video, she illustrates her heavy political commentary using stunning visuals that reference both fascism and rebellion. She may not be Madonna, Rihanna, Mariah or Ariana, but she’s a bad bitch. And we’re fine with that.
