Lohan Out, Sheen In: Charlie Sheen Is New Casting Liability in ‘Machete Kills’

Clearly Robert Rodriguez is a man who likes to live dangerously; he cast Lindsay Lohan in his 2010 flick Machete despite the fact that the prospect of the actress actually showing up on set has been dodgy since 2008 at the latest, and for the sequel Machete Kills Rodriguez is staying with the whole “celebrities in the press for all the wrong reasons thing” by casting Charlie Sheen as the president of the United States. Yup. Deadline’s reporting that Sheen’s role in the film won’t be huge, so hopefully any damages he does to the republic will be limited. The film involves Danny Trejo’s title character being given a mission by the U.S. Government, so one imagines that’s where Sheen comes in. All kidding aside, Sheen’s actually been moderately contrite since his extremely high profile 2011 meltdown, and he’s essentially on the road to career recovery with his FX show Anger Management  and Roman Coppola’s upcoming flick A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. Taking all of that into account there’s not really too much reason to expect trouble on Rodriguez’s set; however, casting for the film’s probably not done, and Lohan’s character survived the first movie. That’s all we’re saying.
