LIZ’s ‘When I Rule The World’ Video is an Early ’00s Wet Dream

+

Mad Decent songstress LIZ has a certified smash on her hands, glistening with trendy, bubblegum production (courtesy of SOPHIE) and easily palpable lyrics for wide-reaching Top 40 consumption. Everything about “When I Rule the World” seems to fit so perfectly within the pop landscape that the track almost reads as satirical commentary on the genre, aligning perfectly with SOPHIE’s mission to reflect mainstream culture in an Underground environment.

Directed by filmmaker Justin Francis, who’s responsible for major clips like Demi Lovato’s “Give Your Heart A Break” and Bonnie McKee’s “American Girl,” LIZ’s “WIRTW” video recalls the distant days of laying on your hot pink shaggy bedroom rug, while filling out surveys in old issues of J-14 and Bop. It’s packed with circular beds (every kid wanted one), plastic tiaras, stuffed animals, puppies, pre-teens doing choreography (and more). Watch the early ’00s wet dream, below.
