Girls frontman Christopher Owens surprised the indie music blogosphere by quitting the band earlier this year, because they were currently riding the high of a few critically acclaimed albums and a steadily burgeoning fanbase—little reason, except in the case of extreme life event, to throw it aside. Owens vowed he wasn’t done with music, though, and today, he released a pair of songs from his upcoming debut solo record, Lysandre, which will be out on January 13. The operative song is is “Here We Go,” a tender track built around gently melodic guitar work and Owens’ easily identifiable hushed pleading. There’s also a lyric that sounds something like “And if your heart is broken / You can find a fellowship with me,” which either is a nice way of identifying the emotional annealing a friend can provide in sad situations, or a suggestion that he’s really, really stoked about The Hobbit. Regardless, I’m on board.
