The tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland last month claimed the lives of 36 people. Among them were talented artists, musicians and members of Oakland’s LGBTQ community, including Cash Askew from goth duo Them Are Us Too, Dilatedears’ Jason ‘JSUN’ McCarty, Nightmom’s Nick Gomez-Hall, Ben Runnels and Denalda Nicole Renae from Introflirt, Brandon Chase Wittenauer from synth-pop band Symbiotix.Fungi, Micah Danemeyer from Paralycyst, Joseph Matlock of Obsidian Blade, Chelsea Faith Dolan AKA Cherushii, Travis Hough from Ghost of Lightning, Nackt’s Johnny Igaz and Barrett Clark, who sometimes performed under the name R.M.S., all irreplaceable additions to Oakland’s underground music community.
To honor the victims of the fire, The Bay Bridged and KQED Arts has put together a mixtape featuring their music. From goth-pop to industrial, the playlist is a reminder of the victims’ talent and will ensure their legacies live on forever.
