After what felt like a breakout year in 2015, Montreal producer Kaytranada is riding that momentum into this spring with the announcement of his debut album 99.9%, arriving May 6 on XL Recordings. Getting a picture with Rick Rubin on the Gram feels like achievement enough for anyone, but he also did some actual work as of late: You can count the plush groove of The Internet’s “Girl” and fuzzy funk of “Lite Weight” on Anderson .Paak’s excellent Malibu as notable recent triumphs.
Both Syd and .Paak are featured on 99.9%’s impressive guest roster, which also includes Little Dragon, Vic Mensa (on the previously released “Drive Me Crazy”), fellow Canadians BADBADNOTGOOD and… Craig David? Yeah, we’re curious about that, too.
Until then, we have the luxuriously smooth “Bus Ride,” featuring Karriem Riggins and River Tiber, on which you can almost hear the sound of Friday melting into the weekend.
