If his entire persona ever turned out to be shtick, RiFF RAFF would be heralded as the most interesting performance artist of the 21st century. His act is real, as far as we know, and the hashtag come to life has out-bizarred himself even further by making good on his promise to imitate James Franco in an episode of One Life to Live, the long-running soap opera that’s been resurrected on Hulu. Because Franco both admitted and non-admitted to cribbing RiFF RAFF’s mannerisms and image for his role as Alien in Spring Breakers, the man they call Jody Highroller got even by portraying “Jamie Franko,” a scuzzy art dealer who appears to be mixed up in some kind of financial loan involving one of the characters on the show.
I don’t really know the details, because I’m a dilettante to the soap world and God help me there’s only so much Wikipedia-ing I will do. But his appearance, which is in the first segment of the Hulu embed posted below, is classic RAFF, looking and acting exactly the same as he does in real life, dropping non sequiturs like “I need my fettucines” in a slightly pared down patois with a pair of beautiful women at his side. His scene takes place in a nightclub taking blatant advantage of the EDM craze, too, and there’s a sequence in the beginning where a character is chatting a prospective online date by asking her, “Mumford & Sons or… The Lumineers?” It’s worth your time. Jamie Franko forever!
