Le Tigre is back—finally. After 10 years, BULLETT favorite, Kathleen Hanna, has returned with her outspoken electro-clash outfit to release an all new single and accompanying music video. On “I’m With Her,” the pop feminist trio revisits their signature sound, blending catchy electronica with a political message. The pro-Hillary election anthem urges listeners to vote while poking fun at The Donald, focusing on the power of women and the need for a female president: “She’s already done the math and she’s ready with a plan, and she’s always got to work twice as hard as every man.”
The video, directed by Laura Parnes and produced by Tanya Selvaratnam of Filmmakers for Hillary, a Clinton advocacy coalition, pieces together archival footage of women’s equality marches and photos of feminist leaders, like Gloria Steinem with images of Hillary, and the band in Clinton-inspired pantsuits. Filmed and recorded just two days before the now infamous Trump recording was released, the dance-punk band reunited just for the occasion.
“It was still looking like he had a good chance,” said Hanna, in an interview with Pitchfork. “We were all like, ‘We can’t not have said something—we have to use the very limited amount of power we have to actually speak our minds.’ […] Obviously, we’re really upset about the state of the election. It’s horrifying, as everybody knows, that we could have a totally fascist president. Every day it gets worse and worse and worse. We just want to get everyone to vote and be a part of the noise. I can’t do phone banks because I have to save my voice for stage, so the least I can do is a song.”
