The golden age of television reigns. Last month, Martin Scorsese announced his return to HBO with a series based on Shutter Island. Now, Lars von Trier can be added to the club of prestigious Hollywood directors migrating to television. The Hollywood Reporter is claiming the Danish iconoclast will be be directing and producing an English series called The House That Jack Built. von Trier’s no stranger to TV, either. In the ’90s, the director released a hit, 8-part Danish miniseries called The Kingdom that played with supernatural elements, and that Stephen King later adapted under the title Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital. Details on the project are scarce, but from what we do know, Trier is currently looking for an ensemble cast and is going to get totally experimental and crazy with his vision. Set to premiere in 2016, the series will undoubtedly land at a network like HBO (if it makes it to series at all), who don’t tend to shy away from controversial subject matter.
