Under the Obligatory Bloggable Content Dissemination Act of 2011, we’re locked in to posting about everything Lana Del Rey, Azaelia Banks, Kitty Pryde, and what anyone even remotely associated with Kreayshawn does for the next two years. To be honest, we were just happy to be getting a contract, and we didn’t look at the fine print before signing on. Nonetheless, here we are, so there’s no use complaining about it now. A gig is a gig.
The good news is, this new video from Kreayshawn “Go Hard (La.La.La),” might actually be, dare I say it, kind of good? And not good in, like, a Kreayshawn-y way, where the off-the-charts adorableness kind of makes up for the, what do you call, not good at music thing. Maybe all my pep talks have finally ‘really inspired her 2 give it her all’? Like I’ve written elsewhere:
Whenever I hear a track from Kreayshawn I turn into this concerned English teacher character who sees talent in one of his young students and wants to see her extend the barest modicum of effort. I know this doesn’t seem like it’s important now, and that your hairstylist/t-shirt silk screening/dub step DJ/ party-promoter career is going to take off as soon as you graduate, but if you look a little closer, you’ll understand that there’s magic inside these words, I’d say, paging through an Emily Dickinson volume or whatever. Then there would be a montage where she, like, gets in trouble after school, and it cuts back to me looking at the clock every day while she skips class, shaking my head, disappointed as I slowly opened my depressing brown paper bag lunch, dripping mustard on my blazer.
Maybe it’s because this track is less ‘hip-hop’ and more on a straight-ahead electro pop ATC-wave “la-la-la” steez, that she’s found her groove. IS THIS THE RETURN OF KREAYSHAWN?
“Hey bitch I see you working at the mall at Forever 21,” she sings(ish). Wait, is that a shot at Kitty Pryde, who famously works at the mall? KITTY PRYDE VS. KREAYSHAWN BEEF OMG.
Glad to see Lil’ Debbie back in the sidekick role here, too. She’s really, really good at dancing next to Kreayshawn.
