If there’s one nightlife pillar that deserves a documentary chronicling their nocturnal NYC career, it’s Susanne Bartsch, the Swiss-born party pioneer whose work has spanned decades and helped catapult cultural icons. Her forthcoming full-length doc @Bartschland, announced today on Vogue, will outline this legacy, highlighting everything from Bartsch’s private life inside her Chelsea Hotel home to those who’ve been affected by her—legends, like RuPaul and Amanda Lepore, as well as contemporary club stalwarts, like Sussi Suss and Aquaria.
The film is being directed by collaborative duo Anthony&Alex, the brains behind our own Triptych series, with help from producers Michael Beach Nichols and Christopher K. Walker. They’ve launched an official Kickstarter campaign and teaser clip, which can be viewed below, to help elevate Bartsch’s message behind all the glitz and glamour of her evening soirees: “I try to unite gays, straight, Uptown, Downtown, drag, businessmen,” she muses in the trailer—a laudable mission, indeed.
