Kendall Jenner turned her lens away from her own face to shoot Kaia Gerber. The images appear in Love magazine—You know, the wildly popular fashion mag that features work by top fashion photographers like David Sims, Mert & Marcus, Tim Walker, Juergen Teller and Willy Vanderperre.
To be fair, the images aren’t bad per say. They kind of look like a tamer, less directional knock off of Petra Collins’ earliest work—the girlishness, the soft hues, the angsty pout—but why would a magazine that features professionals who’ve spent years honing their craft have Kendall Jenner shoot for them? And if they wanted to feature an emerging photographer, couldn’t they have chosen, you know, anyone else?
Say it with me, “social media,” or just buzz, or whatever. Anyway, it’s silly and makes me sad.
