Proving, yet again, that literally no style of music is safe from the omnivorous pop-culture recycling machine, Katy Perry’s latest, “Walking On Air”, appears to poke the corpse of ’90s diva house with a fluorescent, star-spangled pop dildo. The past is but a big walk-in closet, and we’re all playing genre dress-up with each new outfit change.
Perry was inspired by watching roller skaters in New York dance around to this style of music, she told MTV.
“I looked at her and I said, ‘I have to do a song like that,’ ” she said of the song, which she said she is using to channel dance diva CeCe Peniston’s 1991 hit single, “Finally.” “I was like I really want to bring that authentic 90’s deep house song styling back.”
She sure did. Thanks?
