The cone of silence for any type of fanboy-driven movie can be deafening, and with good reason: The less fans know, the more they’ll obsess over every scrap of information. A sequel to Star Trek is being shot right now, with Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch playing an as-yet unnamed villain. While fanboys speculated here and there over who he might be, director J.J. Abrams was all too happy to keep mum. However, in an interview promoting Dredd, it turns out that Karl Urban—who plays Dr. McCoy in Star Trek —might’ve spoiled Cumberbatch’s identity without meaning to, ruining the surprise. (I won’t say who, because I’m not that rude and because it doesn’t matter that much. But you can see it here.) As a result, Abrams moved quickly to put the kibosh on any further potential mishaps. “J.J. Abrams sent me something for Comic-Con this week,” Urban told Ain’t It Cool News, “and told me that anytime I was asked a question about Star Trek, I had to do this,” which he followed by sticking a piece of masking tape to his mouth. Which is the photo you can see above and a pretty fair punishment, all things considered. You should’ve seen what Abrams did when Matthew Fox revealed that the glowing light in the center of the island was just a plot device. (I can’t write about it here for legal reasons, but it involved a blender and ten feet of rubber rope.)
