Kanye West Vows to Boycott the Grammys if Frank Ocean Isn’t Nominated

+

What are the Grammys without Kanye West? Boring af, that’s what. Who will rush the stage if Beyoncé doesn’t win album of the year for Lemonade? And if Kanye isn’t there, that probably means Kim won’t attend either, which sucks for the Balmain atelier because I bet they already started hand-beading her dress. Basically what I’m saying is the whole Universe will be out of whack if Kanye does not attend the Grammys.

Unfortunately, this nightmare could be a reality if Frank Ocean’s Blonde does not receive any nominations, and as it stands, it won’t. That’s because Frank and his team failed to submit the thing for consideration. Case closed, right? Wrong. West, who apparently moonlights as a super sleuth, discovered that the Grammys once bent the rules to give Lady GaGa a nomination. At his Saint Pablo show last night in Oakland, West proclaimed that if the Grammys don’t give the same treatment to his boy Frank Ocean, he will not attend show.

Here’s his rant in full:

“[Gaga] wasn’t nominated for Best New Artist, right? But they wanted her to perform at the show; they wanted her to open. So the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations in order to nominate her, in order for her to perform in the show. Now, Frank Ocean, on the other hand, is very vocal that his album wasn’t nominated for the Grammys, right? Since he’s vocal, no one wants to say nothing about it. No one wants to do nothing about it. And I’m saying this to y’all, because a lot of people try to make a scene, like, ‘I’m so self-centered.’ But the album I listened to the most this year is Frank Ocean’s album. And I’ll tell you this right now: If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys.”

It’s been suggested that Ocean and his team intentionally withheld his album from consideration, making West’s rant extra pointless. But I will say this: a Grammys without Kanye (and Kim) is a less entertaining Grammys. Would hardcore Kanye fuckbois follow West in his boycott and refuse to watch? If so, the Grammys better start taking West’s threat very, very seriously as that’s a significant population.
