As the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Dollhouse, the director of The Avengers, and the patron saint of fanboys everywhere, Joss Whedon is obviously a big fan of sci-fi dystopia and post-apocalyptic horror. That’s why he’s endorsing Mitt Romney for president, despite being a liberal. He’s just the best choice for those of us waiting for the horrors of sci-fi to become a reality, he explains in this video.
Romney, he says, is the candidate with the “vision and determination to cut through business as usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse.”
“Romney is ready to make the deep roll backs in health care, education, social services, and reproductive rights that will guarantee poverty, unemployment, over population, disease, and rioting, all crucial elements in creating a nightmare zombie wasteland. But it’s his commitment to ungoverned corporate privilege that will nose dive this economy into true insolvency and chaos.”
The 1%, he goes on, won’t be the rich anymore. It will be the the people who can run fast, and are really good at parkour.
At the very least, if we don’t get a zombie apocalypse out of a Romney administration, we can always count on another trope of dsytopian sci-fi: the oligarchical government indifferent to the brutal suffering of its people with bloated leaders who feast upon the labor of the poor.
As Whedon says, “Mitt’s not afraid to face a ravening grasping horde of sub-humans, because that’s how he sees poor people already.” Take it from him, this dude knows a blood-sucking monster when he sees one.
