Jeff Koons Unveils Giant Ballerina at Rockefeller Center

+

So, apparently this is what happens when everyone hates your Louis Vuitton collaboration: you go back to the basics with a giant piece of obnoxious public art. Or, at least, that’s what Jeff Koons does. This morning, the ridiculously overpaid artist unveiled a mirrored ballerina in the heart of Rockefeller Center. Part of his “Antiquity” series, the piece is meant to raise awareness for missing children, though I’m not exactly sure how. Maybe because she’s so big? A contemporary interpretation of Greek fertility goddess, Venus, the balloon sculpture is just as monstrous IRL as it looks in the picture. Maybe she’ll fall to her death, too. But if you’re into pornographic displays of wealth and power, head on over to Rockefeller Center—it’ll be there until June 2.
