Yesterday, Marina Abramović made headlines, claiming Jay Z broke a financial promise to donate money to her Institute after she agreed to appear in his super arty “Picasso Baby” music video. The Queen of Performance Art called her experience with Hov a “one-way-transaction,” but video producer Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn is publicly claiming otherwise.
In an interview with artnet News, the “Picasso Baby” filmmaker read out loud a receipt saying, “Thank you for your donation.” The document was labeled with the number, “W984804,” and acknowledged a substantial donation, according to Greenberg Rohatyn. Although it’s still not publicly known how much Jay Z actually donated to Abramović’s Institute, (maybe it was $5 and a burrito) this new development certainly knocks holes in the art icon’s original claims. We’re still waiting on statements from both parties.
