Until now we hadn’t really given any thought to the possibility of a movie based on the life of troubled/brilliant author David Foster Wallace. But today the internet has spewed out news that Jason Segel is on tap to portray Wallace in The End of the Tour, a movie based on the Wallace biography Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace, by David Lipsky. The story follows Wallace and Lipsky, who’s a character in his own story, as they criss-cross the country during the book tour for Wallace’s magnum opus, Infinite Jest. Jesse Eisenberg is set to play Lipsky opposite Jason Segel, and James Ponsoldt, who made last summer’s excellent The Spectacular Now, is slated to direct. Foster, who battled severe depression and wrote about it in terrifying ways, hung himself in 2008, which the movie will probably allude to in those title cards that appear at the end of true stories.
