Japanese Metal Girl Group Babymetal is Getting its Own Cartoon

+

Japanese Kawaii-metal sensation, Babymetal, is coming to the big screen—sort of. This week, Warner Bros. announced a new digital series, which follows the band as it saves heavy metal. Part live-action, part animation, the girls will enter the cartoon world through a secret portal, where they’ll redefine the genre through brand new performances of singles, like “Karate” and “Gimme Chocolate!!” as well as unreleased material.

Basically YuiMETAL, MoaMETAL and Su-METAL are the new Powderpuff Girls—again, sort of.

“Babymetal have to be seen to believed—a mind-blowing, fun combination of pop vocals, heavy metal music and dance choreography brought to life by three incredibly talented teenage stars,” said Sam Register, Warner Bros President of Animation and Digital Series. “We are huge fans here at Blue Ribbon Content and are extremely excited to help bring the Babymetal phenomenon to U.S. audiences through this upcoming digital series.”

But will “U.S. audiences” actually latch onto Babymetal? Probably not.
