James Franco Is Trying to Crowdfund 500k for a Film Project

Another week, another wealthy celebrity leaning on fans to fund a project. Welcome to the new normal. As Frankenstein-like hyphenate celebrity James Franco explains in this pitch for his IndieGogo campaign to make a series of films based on short stories from his collection Palo Alto, “this process is very exciting” and “the best way to make movies.”

Why is that, you ask?

“Because in this way the movies we want to make get made in the ways we want to make them. The only considerations are how to make the best movies possible.”

To Franco’s credit, he’s not looking to make money off the project, and any proceeds will go to the Art of Elysium charity, a group that encourages creative types to work with children with serious disabilities.

He explains more:

Finding the funding while still maintaining artistic integrity has been a constant challenge. Because of who I am, people often believe that it is easy to find investors and distributors for my films.  Unfortunately, things aren’t that easy. More times than not, I have put in my own money to produce my films and my student’s films. However, this time it’s different; We need more funding, I will still fund part of it but I need of your help, filming three feature films back-to-back requires more funding than I can give.

So, there you go. Go give your money to this thing if you want over here.
