Last week we reported that James Blake was reviving his Harmonimix project for a release featuring a rework of British rapper Trim’s “Confidence Boost” and a track called “Saying.” Recently FACT spoke to Trim, and the MC revealed something interesting. Speaking about his collaboration with Blake, Trim said the following: “He’s just come back from America, doing tunes with Lil Wayne and stuff. It was kind of strange our relationship and how it all came about, but I’m happy to know someone like him! He’s sick at what he does, definitely. Weird music, but I’m a weird person, so I’ll always like that kind of stuff.”
If you blinked you might’ve missed it, but what’s that Trim says about Blake “doing tunes” with Lil Wayne? He means working on music, right? Unless “doing tunes” is new slang for drinking lean. Of course, a sentence in an interview isn’t a whole lot to go off, but it was widely reported that Drake was an earlier admirer of Blake when he first started to get attention. Is it possible that Drake’s interest could’ve rolled into a collaboration with Weezy? Reports of collaborations like these lead to something about as often as they don’t, but Lil Wayne rapping over a James Blake track seems like a great opportunity for aural magic.
