“‘Shades of Blue’ is about not giving too much of yourself to someone that isn’t capable of giving it back,” Kacy Hill explains of the song behind her latest lyric video. “Kind of like realizing your own self worth.”
Based on the trajectory of her career, here’s hoping she’s well aware of her own.
The song, like others from Hill, such as her debut “Experience,” is an effervescent, emotive, minimal ballad. It takes on a different feeling in the live context, she says in the video documenting her performance at the launch of the Pepsi “Creators League” Studio Space in Manhattan.
“’Shades of Blue’ is my favorite song to perform off of Bloo, and I am so thankful to Pepsi for sharing their time and beautiful studio space with me and my crew,” Hill says of the experience.” Bloo, her debut LP, was released last year via Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam.
In case she looks somewhat familiar, that Kanye co-sign came after her time as a dancer on the Yeezus tour. You might also recognize the artist from her campaigns for American Apparel. Find more from Hill, here.
