And, on cue, it begins: Following up from yesterday’s news that Nicki Minaj is reportedly in strong contention to take over one of those vacant American Idol judge positions, TMZ is reporting that would-be co-judge Mariah Carey is a little steamed about the situation. Their crack reporting team reconstructs a scenario in which someone called Mimi to break the news that she might have a younger, relevant-er female co-star on the show—and got hung up on. (Alternately: She uses AT&T, which dropped the call.)
Obviously, this could just be an engineered ploy to generate controversy and such, but can you just imagine the heat? The rude sideways glances? The hawkish overseering from a Mimi incensed? Must-see fall TV! TMZ also notes that Idol might be looking for a fourth judge to complement the two (plus incumbent Randy Jackson), one who would ideally be a male. They mention Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, and Enrique Iglesias, but I’ll stick with TMZ commentator “ROWBOAT,” who helpfully suggests, “Holographic 2pac, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. too soon? its 2012 lets get this future thing crackin’.” Indeed, it’s 2012, and there are plenty of things to crack.
