Iggy Pop has teamed up with Danger Mouse to release a new single, “Gold.” Written for the Matthew McConaughey movie of the same name, the dreamy track mixes psych-pop with Iggy’s haunting voice, part ’60s garage rock, part Tom Waits.
“This beautiful and unpredictable film spoke to me of violence, desire, destiny, lust and the inescapable twists of fate,” said the singer. “The actors and the story spun a web of excitement that left me spent and breathless, so I tried to perform the vocal with that feeling in mind.”
Iggy previously collaborated with Danger Mouse on the Sparklehorse track, “Pain.” Directed by Stephen Gaghan, the film, tells the true story of a man who abandons his life to find gold in Indonesia. Out January 27, Iggy called the title track, “a song of our times.”
