There’s a new craze sweeping the internet via hashtag and it has high school students doing the impossible: standing perfectly still for seconds at a time.
The #MannequinChallenge is pretty much what it sounds like: groups of millennials create elaborate tableaus and hold them in place while another millennial (or a teacher maybe? I mean, who wouldn’t want to be in the video?!) films the thing (a photo wouldn’t exactly work). Set the video to music and ta-da, you’re done. According to Mashable, who seem to know about this sort of thing, this is the OG #MannequinChallenge video:

As far as internet challenges go, this one isn’t half bad. Unlike planking, it allows for enough variation and creativity to have a decent shelf life and unlike the Kylie lip challenge it isn’t likely to cause any significant injuries. Plus, I like the idea of teachers walking onto the quad during lunchtime and finding their entire student body frozen in time and thinking that they’ve gone insane.
But I’m sure it won’t be long before talk show hosts, adults and a whole bunch of white people co-opt this thing and turn it into an international nightmare. Until then, have fun kids!
