Here’s a cool way to feel like an out of touch old/breathlessly pretentious clown: Go through Spotify’s 100 most played songs of 2012 and note how many you’ve heard or even heard of. My total count was 28 out of 100, which is wholly embarrassing and makes me think about all the music I’ve missed while wearing out the Titus Andronicus record like a completely predictable Brooklyn-dwelling indie rock partisan. (I won’t apologize for continuing to ignore Maroon 5′s existence, though.)

So, yes, give it a look and put it on shuffle so that you might hear what you’ve been missing, as decided by the Internet’s scrobbling masses—as well as #2-ranked “Call Me Maybe” and #1-ranked “Somebody That I Used to Know,” the overpoweringly ubiquitous phenomenons that could only be escaped by literal hermits. Man, there is so much Maroon 5 on this and there is nothing to like about that. As a bonus, you can also watch the video for fun.’s “Some Nights”—a song that (whisper voice) I think is kind of great as long as you don’t watch the video for it. Knock yourself out.
