Justin Timberlake should stop acting. Not because he’s not good at effortlessly transposing his, “Yes, I’m Justin Timberlake and I’m cooler than you” persona onto a slew of cooler-than-you characters in movies like The Social Network and Friends With Benefits (I mean, just kidding, I didn’t see that), but because he already had a job that he was damn good at. It’s been a brutal six years since Timberlake released FutureSex/LoveSounds, the album that anointed him as the unchallenged 21st century King of Pop. Since then, he’s largely kept mum about whether or not a follow-up would be coming while trying to make that acting career happen.
But now, ShowBiz411 reports that Timberlake is quietly working on that next album, to be released sometime in early 2013. They note that he’s working with Timbaland, who helmed a bunch of the tracks on FutureSex, and that it’s all very hush-hush given the obvious attention such a project would receive were it being worked on in public. It’s not very much to go on, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Timberlake denied its existence; that said, he’s recently given comments about his slow process toward music, noting that his approach is fueled by his life experiences. (Like plenty of artists, but I digress.) I imagine that means his new record will just be a concept album about not getting nominated for an Oscar.
