‘Hold My Avocado’ is the Millennial Catchphrase Nobody Asked For

+

As if being a millennial weren’t insufferable enough, Time magazine had to go and make it a billion times worse.

This is such an eye roll it’s difficult to look at my computer screen long enough to write about it, but here we go. Time, you know, that magazine your mom reads at the doctor’s office, just took an unfunny, tired twitter joke about millennials and avocados and turned it up to eleven. If in the distant future people look back upon millennials and say “Oh, you know, those people who loved avocados,” I’m holding Time personally responsible.

So here’s the tweet:

Get it?! It’s a riff on that already not very funny “hold my beer joke,” except they’ve replaced the beer with an avocado because millennials love avocados!

Anyway, Time explained the joked in excruciating detail, but then they took it one step further, suggesting that the entire millennial experience can be whittled down to, you guessed it, avocados. According to them: “‘hold my avocado” is a quick way to denote the contemporary millennial experience: seeking luxury wellness, but potentially derailed by sociopolitical developments.”

And the worst part is, I fucking love avocados and now I can’t eat one without feeling like a parody of myself. Thanks a lot, Time.
