One of the best parts about a new David Fincher film—besides the fact that you can pretty much guarantee it’s going to be excellent—is a new score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The two began working with the director for The Social Network—a score that won them an Oscar—and teamed up with him again to give The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo a chilling sonic backdrop that befit its northern Swedish setting. On October 3rd, we’ll get to see how Reznor and Ross amplified the dread in Fincher’s latest, Gone Girl, but if you can’t wait that long to see what they came up with, Fincher and Ross released a sneak peek, from a track called “The Way He Looks at Me.” Reznor previously said he wanted the music to evoke “the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors. The way that it artificially tries to make you feel like everything’s OK. And then imagine that sound starting to curdle and unravel.” As someone who frequents massage parlors, I don’t see it, but that’s why I’m not Trent Reznor and he is. Listen to it below.
