Remember when taking a one-dimensional pop culture icon like Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian and styling them in some sort of over-the-top artistic way was boundary-pushing and interesting? There was a time, people. Unfortunately, that time passed long before Interview dropped this cover of Kylie Jenner, the third most interesting of a generally uninteresting clan (I would argue that Kim comes in at #1 primarily because of her proximity to Kanye West and Kendall takes #2 because, although I think she’s a boring model, she has been in nearly every noteworthy campaign for the past year).
The cover features Tyga’s girlfriend wearing a copper corset (which looks obnoxiously similar to that worn by Kate Moss for Pop magazine back in 2013), riding another human being like a horse. This might be creepy, but Kylie is made to look like some sort of demented cyborg, complete with receding hairline. It looks like an movie poster promoting a film in which poorly constructed Stepford Wives stage a revolution against their unsuspecting husbands with the sole goal of riding them around town as horses. I would definitely see that film, by the way.
Anyway, let’s hope this utter disaster marks the end of these sorts of artistic covers featuring wholly unartistic humans… but since I’m mentioning it here, albeit negatively, it’s probably just the beginning.
