Do you ever find yourself standing in a resplendent, verdant field, positively overwhelmed by all the natural joy of God’s Earth? Do you ever wish for a soundtrack to transform your life into a facsimile of The Tree of Life, replete with lens flare and gently swaying wheat stalks to symbolize your symbiosis with the way of things? Do you ever just feel? Travis Powers, aka Youth Lagoon, released a sprawling, six-minute song today called “Mute” and it’s easily one of the best tracks of the young year, filled with cascading wind chimes, swirling sonics, progressive percussion, a pleading vocal that cuts through the layered center like a flashlight in a snow storm. It’s sort of stupid good, and the type of song that will make you feel boundlessly infinite as you sit at your desk, wondering how the new week came so soon. The song is off his new album, Wondrous Bughouse, which comes out March 5 on Fat Possum.
