Strengthening the transgender movement in fashion, H&M’s sister label & Other Stories released a campaign today starring two trans models with a fully trans production team.
Photographer Amos Mac shot Hari Nef and Valentijn De Hingh with styling credits going to Love Bailey and makeup credits to Nina Poon. The brand, known for its minimal aesthetic and approachable price points, opted for a sportswear feel, featuring relaxed, clean silhouettes, a metallic color palette and shiny fabrics.
“There’s a lot of talk about transgender today, but for us, it was a lateral step to do [the campaign],” Creative Director Sara Hilden told WWD. Campaign star De Hingh touched on the transgender movement in fashion, adding, “I think that the way things are moving right now, it’s looking like even when the fad is over, there will still be awareness of our story and our issues.”
While it’s an important move, & Other Stories isn’t the first brand to go this trans-friendly route. Rising NYC label Gogo Graham recently released a beachy resort ’16 lookbook, which also starred exclusively transwomen. Graham, a transwoman herself, recruited trans photographer Serena Jara to capture the collection, as well. See & Other Stories’ campaign in full, above.
