LA producer Blood Diamonds, who we last heard from collaborating with Grimes on the tropically-washed out “Phone Sex” (and with Kreayshawn and Grimes on the tossed-off “Don’t Smoke My Blunt Bitch” from their “supergroup” L$D), is set to release the 12” vinyl of that track next week. Today, he’s released the b-side “Ritual,” a song that keeps the steel drummy nocturnal beach party trip vibing.
“After such an upfront track like ‘Phone Sex’, there needed to be a reply to the notion of dancing all night,” he explains. “A cyborg-ish desire to be human is quite a contrast to being in that perfect moment.”
It’d be particularly depressing being a cyborg at the type of party the song conjures—especially if you’re the kind that can’t jump in the ocean and suck back frozen rum cocktails all night. Then again, eternal life and no pain… Kind of a toss up, I suppose.
