Despite the fact that Frank Ocean’s highly anticipated Blonde was totally worth the wait, it won’t be winning any Grammys in 2017.
But it’s a goddamn masterpiece, you say. But it was totally released before the September 30th cutoff date, you say. True, all true. However, Ocean and/or his team neglected to submit Blonde as well as his visual album Endless for consideration, meaning it is not eligible for any awards.
Yesterday this seemed as though it could have been a mere oversight, but today Pitchfork reports that a source “close to the situation” says Ocean and his peeps totally pulled a Bob Dylan and ghosted the Grammys on purpose. Makes sense – it’s not like an entire label and management team would just, like, miss the submission date. Still, it’s surprising given the love that the Grammys gave the musician back in 2013 (he was nominated for six and took home two).
At any rate, every other recording artist can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
