For Flying Lotus’s next album, Until the Quiet Comes, producer Steven Ellison has enlisted a number of high profile collaborators. Today, he released “See Thru to U,” which features Erykah Badu’s singular soul coo over a layered progression of drums. “Erykah is great. It was really intimidating at first because she reminds me of my mom. It was hard to work with that energy. But she’s amazing, she’s the real deal,” Ellison said when I talked to him last month. “Every take that she did I fell in love with, pretty much. So it was a great experience, and hopefully we can continue to work together.” A full-length song with more Badu in the mix might sound even better, so let’s hope they stay in each other’s Rolodex. Until the Quiet Comes is out on October 1 via Warp Records.
