Florence + The Machine Puts on a Spectacle in ‘Spectrum’ Clip

+

Florence + The Machine’s widely celebrated sophomore effort Ceremonials came out last fall, but Flo and her label aren’t quite done with it yet.  The clip for album cut “Spectrum” just dropped today, and it features our beloved Florence holding court over a gaggle of dancers while the whole lot of them freak out in time to the song. The David LaChapelle and John Byrne-directed clip does its best to match the bombast of Welch’s trademark wails with visual excess (they put a mini-Florence ballerina in there for good measure), but Calvin Harris’ house-y remix of the track probably does a better job giving Welch’s voice the kind of grandiose accompaniment it needs. After all, the ceiling for vocal bombast in house music is probably somewhere up there past Betelgeuse.
