If you were to have asked me yesterday to make a list of things I do not need anymore of in my life, up toward the top of that list, right before a hole in the head (iyswidt), and right after another reason to leap off the side of my apartment building and end it all, would be one single more “Call Me Maybe” mashup. And so it was with a fierce sense of internet snootiness that I ignored this mix of Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” I’m better than that, I thought, scrolling past the numerous links to it on my feed. I do not need this, I thought. I don’t know what I’m talking about, as it turns out, because this is great. I do need this. I’ve been waiting for it all my life and I didn’t even know it. via
Also, as a friend just pointed out to me, this isn’t even that much of a contrasting stylistic leap, at least not on the mixing end. David Ogilvie, the guy who mixed the “Call Me Maybe” record, worked on a bunch of Nine Inch Nails, (and Marilyn Manson, and Skinny Puppy) records as well. Everything is cyclical, man.
